The Professional Development of Early Years Educators

Call for articles for a Special Issue of the journal Professional Development in Education

Colleagues are invited to submit articles for a Special Issue on The Professional Development of Early Years Educators which will be published in Spring 2015.

This special issue will bring together international perspectives and will enable a comparison of approaches to supporting the professional learning and development of those working in the field of early years education in government maintained and non-maintained settings inside and outside statutory education systems. The term ‘early years educator is taken to include all those working in a professional capacity with young children in educative settings, including home-based care and education. We welcome a broad range of contributions, for example focusing on comparing approaches to the professional learning and development of early years educators, leadership development for early years professionals, and the evaluation of the success or otherwise of professional development initiatives involving early years educators. We are also interested in articles which provide an analysis of relevant policy development at local and national levels and critical consideration of research literature on the effectiveness of professional development programmes for early years educators.

The Special Issue will be edited by Jane Waters and Jane Payler who will be pleased to comment on abstracts or answer queries on whether proposals are likely to fall within the remit of this publication. All articles submitted will be peer reviewed following the criteria used by Professional Development in Education.

Questions and general enquiries may be sent to either Jane Waters (Jane.Waters@sm.uwtsd.ac.uk) or Jane Payler (Jane.Payler@winchester.ac.uk). Abstracts or completed articles for review should be emailed to Jane Waters, indicating clearly that you wish the work to be considered for the Special Issue on ‘The Professional Development of Early Years Educators’. Expressions of interest and abstracts should be received by 28 March 2014. Full drafts of articles will be required for review by 01 September 2014 and final versions of accepted articles should be submitted by 28 November 2014. We anticipate that the journal will be published in April 2015.

Detailed notes for authors may be obtained from back copies of Professional Development in Education or from the website: www.tandf.co.uk/journals/PDiE
