PPD Reports
Purposes of this resource – introduction by Cliff Jones
In compiling and presenting this resource the International Professional Development Association (IPDA) seeks to:
- provide opportunity for World-wide dissemination of the learning, interests and values of professional educators;
- make it possible for colleagues to know more about each other’s work; and
- grow international conversation and collaboration.
The resource includes a collection of reports from a number of universities in England in which they evaluate the impact of their programmes of masters and doctoral level programmes for schoolteachers. Compiling such reports is a condition of funding. Some of the history and key features of this particular programme of postgraduate professional development (PPD) will be outlined in a separate paper in which I will also attempt to set out what I believe to be key factors affecting it. Notes
- The reports of each university are accompanied by the contact details of the relevant person.
- In some cases there will be more than one person and for some universities there is more than one report.
- In some cases universities have provided additional material
Postgraduate Professional Development in England:a personal account of the background to the evaluation of its impact – written by Cliff Jones
This paper contains some memories, views and interpretations of events that are personal and anecdotal and may, therefore, be disputed. Most of it was written just prior to the decision by Michael Gove, the secretary of state for education, to stop the funding of postgraduate professional development (PPD) for schoolteachers in England. I am also aware that it is not an exhaustive account of PPD. There is much more to be said and many more citations to be made. I may get round to doing this thoroughly.
