23 June 2024: Lightning Conference on Navigating Ethical Issues and Dilemmas in Educational Research

Our second IPDA Lightning Conference will take place in June with the theme Navigating Ethical Issues and Dilemmas in Educational Research.

Date: Sunday 23rd June 2024
Time: 10am to 1pm (online)
Cost: £10.00 to attend and/or present
Register: Register with Eventbrite

After the huge success of our first ‘lightning conference’ last year, we are thrilled to present our second online lightning conference! This event gives you the platform for 7 minutes (followed by short 3 minute Q&A), to present a lightning talk on an issue/topic regarding the ethics process when conducting educational research.

The lightning conference, just like the main IPDA conference, will have our usual warm, friendly and welcoming feel to the event, and is an excellent opportunity to:

  • ‘Have a go’ at a ‘mini’ conference, for those ECRs who may not have presented before.
  • Make connections with other ECRs who are researching, and keep in touch with them afterwards.
  • Put your work out to a wider audience.
  • Share and test ideas!
  • Receive some questions and queries about your study – always good to get thinking!
  • Prepare for IPDA’s main conference in November 2024.

Our lightning conference costs just £10.00 to attend and/or present. All funds generated go back to IPDA to fund and support future events for early career researchers (ECRs).

Abstract submissions

Why not submit an abstract? We welcome abstracts from all ECRs including: MA students, doctoral researchers (EdD/PhD) at any stage of their study, and post-doctoral researchers.

Conference themes include:

  • The problematisation/critique/spotlight on any ethical issue or dilemma
  • Recruiting, selecting and working with participants during research
  • Specific qualitative or quantitative methods, methodologies or paradigms that highlight an ethical issue or dilemma
  • Researcher identity that highlights an ethical issue or dilemma
  • A ‘branch’ of the ethical process that you would like to discuss/problematise

Abstracts (200 words limit, including references) to be submitted.

Deadline for abstracts: Monday 3rd June 2024, 5:00pm.

Notification of outcome: Friday 7th June 2024.

ECRs with successful abstract submissions will then be able to purchase their tickets to the conference.
