IPDA England seminar discusses co-creation of the CPD Pathway through ‘cross border’ collaboration
May 8, 2019
This seminar was given by IPDA England’s Dr Linda Devlin and Pauline Smith at the Research-Engaged Practice Network, Sheffield Hallam University on 8 May 2019.
Co-creation of the Continuing Professional Development Pathway through ‘cross border’ collaboration in the West Midlands
The West Midlands Continuing Professional Development (CPD) network has been in existence for over 20 years supporting CPD leaders, who increasingly work across the borders of the education profession. Recently we have developed the CPD Pathway. This tool has been co-created by network members to encourage and promote a shared understanding of the nature and purpose of the Standard for teachers’ professional development (DfE, 2016). In this session we’ll explore how CPD leaders use the ‘Pathway’ to prioritise, design and maximise the impact of professional learning on student learning. The findings indicate a rich patchwork of leadership activity and form the basis of Pathway guidance formulated for CPD leaders. Presented in collaboration with IPDA England.

Research-Engaged Practice Network is a group for practitioners and researchers to share, learn about and plan research and enquiry. Our focus is always on close-to-practice research, carried out with and by current education practitioners.
REPN meetings take place at Sheffield Hallam University around once a term. Each meeting involves three or four people sharing an informal presentation about their research and enquiries, with lots of opportunity for discussion.
Other speakers presenting include:
- Literacy Improvement in EAL, Jessica Hainsworth, Jenney Smith
- Becoming a researcher – the Doctorate in Education (EdD) @ Sheffield Hallam University, Jemma Monkhouse, Cara Doxey, Gill Adams
- Project in Citizenship and Mathematics, Gill Adams, Fufy Demissie, Rob Unwin
The session is part of our Research-Engaged Practice Network. If you are interested in hosting an IPDA England event please get in touch. This is a great opportunity to meet and network with IPDA colleagues. Email Liz at england@ipda.org.uk.
