25 January 2025: Lightning Conference: “I am the Doctor – the Oncoming Storm”. The Becomings of a Doctor in Doctoral Research

Our third IPDA Lightning Conference will take place in June with the theme : “I am the Doctor – the Oncoming Storm”. The Becomings of a Doctor in Doctoral Research.

Date: Saturday 25th January 2025
Time: 10am to 1pm (online)
Cost: £10.00 to attend and/or present
Register: Coming soon

After the huge success of our first two ‘lightning conferences’, we are thrilled to present our third online lightning conference! Our lightning conference will give you the platform for 7mins (followed by short 3min Q&A), to present a lightning talk on an issue/topic regarding the ‘becomings of a doctor’ in doctoral research.

The lightning conference, just like the main IPDA conference, will have our usual warm, friendly and welcoming feel to the event, and is an excellent opportunity to:

  • ‘Have a go’ at a ‘mini’ conference, for those ECRs who may not have presented much before.
  • Make connections with other ECRs who are researching, and keep in touch with them afterwards.
  • Put your work out to a wider audience.
  • Share and test ideas!
  • Receive some questions and queries about your study – always good to get thinking!
  • Prepare for IPDA’s main conference later in the year.

Our lightning conference costs just £10.00 to attend and/or present. All funds generated go back to IPDA to fund and support future events for early career researchers (ECRs).

Abstract submissions

Why not submit an abstract? We welcome abstracts from all ECRs including: MA students thinking of undertaking doctoral research, doctoral researchers (EdD/PhD) at any stage of their study, and post-doctoral researchers.

Conference themes include but are not necessarily limited to:

  • The problematisation/critique/spotlight on any positionality issue
  • Intersectionality/Multiple identities
  • Identity/Identities conflict/tension/dissonance
  • Power relations
  • Managing relations with participants during the research process
  • Any relevant identity/identities topic(s) during the research process

Abstracts (200 words limit, including references) to be submitted.

Deadline for abstracts: Monday 6th January 2025, 5pm.

Notification of outcome: Friday 10th January 2025

ECRs with successful abstract submissions will then be able to purchase their tickets to the conference.
