Mentoring in ITTE SIG

Special Interest Group: Mentoring in Initial Teacher Training and Education

The purpose of this group is to develop and sustain a space for the discussion of how mentoring can be used to support the professional learning of trainee and student teachers and their placement mentors in England.

ABout this group

Ideas that we wish to initially explore through the group are:

  • How can mentoring be used to support the professional learning of novice teachers and their in-school mentors?
  • What conditions are needed to foster professional growth of novice teachers and their in-school mentors?

Through this group we are proposing to:

  • To have online meetings once a term (3 times per year) to share ideas in the development of professional learning using mentoring and coaching, to be held on Zoom.
  • To invite members to write reflective pieces in short form blogs (up to 500 words) to highlight their current work in this area
  • To contribute articles/news to IPDA newsletters on a regular basis.
  • To record Podcast interviews with group members about their work and reflections on mentoring in ITTE.
