IPDA Scotland Symposium: Professional Learning in a renewing learning community

May 14, 2025
On Saturday, 10th May 2025, education professionals from various universities, schools and organisations came together to discuss and reflect on professional learning. In a symposium hosted at Queen Margaret University and the outdoor learning hub, members of the IPDA Scotland provoked discussion and shared their insights on professional learning across Scotland. The title of the event was ‘Professional Learning in a renewing learning community, ’ and it proved to be a very worthwhile day, which served in a very genuine and sincerely felt way to renew the IPDA Scotland community itself. The sun shone all day long!
Professional collaborative learning sessions were huddled in the woods; walking reflections; and a range of prompts were given by a range of wonderful practitioners. Inspired to make one change, participants in the symposium spent time reflecting on their own professional and personal roles, what it means to connect and collaborate, and enjoy a sense of ‘belonging’ to professional learning communities.
Views and ideas were exchanged around the renewing learning communities that are current in aspects of education today. It was a great day for committed professionals to share their thoughts and reflect on how they can possibly do one thing and make a possible change that would make a difference in their organisation.
The day ended with drinks in the sunshine at QMU’s student Union, Maggie’s, and the IPDA Scotland committee was formally voted in. This was our first opportunity to do this since being formed in lockdown in 2020.
