IPDA England hosts two seminars for Education Professionals
June 14, 2018
IPDA England held two events on 6 and 7 June 2018 for Education Professionals:
- 6 June 2018 • Hertfordshire University
- 7 June 2018 • Wolverhampton University, Walsall Campus
The following workshops took place at both events:
Professional challenges for mentors and teacher educators in the changing context of INITIAL TEACHER EDUCATION
Presented by Dr Liz White, University of Hertfordshire, UK and Dr Miranda Timmermans, Avans University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands. In this workshop we will explore some of the challenges for mentors and teacher educators arising from changes in teacher education in partnerships between schools and universities.
We will share issues and discussion from our international research project. You will also have an opportunity to contribute to the research as we identify challenges and dilemmas in our own professional practice using a narrative approach. The session will also offer an opportunity to find out more about the International Professional Development Association and IPDA England.
The West Midlands CPD Partnership’s new CPD STANDARD PATHWAY TOOL for use in schools, colleges and universities
The National CPD Standard for Teachers’ Professional Development was published by DfE in 2016: ‘The Standard should be used by everyone working in, and with, schools to raise expectations for professional development, to focus on achieving the greatest improvement in pupil outcomes, and to develop our teachers as respected members of the profession.’ (DfE 2016). The standard is made up of 5 key strands.
In this workshop, presented by CUREE and membership of the CPD Partnership, participants will be able to learn about the innovatory CPD Pathway Tool. This tool enables teachers, school leaders and providers of CPD to explore interactively the aspects of CPD provision they wish to prioritise for development in their organisation; and helps them to maximise the impact of CPD programmes on teacher and student learning. The Pathway allows teachers and leaders to access a wide range of research and practical case studies to illuminate each of the key strands of the CPD Standard.
The West Midlands CPD Partnership has worked collaboratively over the last year to make the CPD Standard accessible and useful to practitioners. We are in the process of piloting and making this online tool and its resources freely available to schools in the West Midland’s region.
